Old Cut Diamonds

Old Cut Diamonds

Old Mine Cut and Old European Diamonds

What makes antique and vintage diamond jewelry so unique is the stones. Old Cut stones, like Old Mine Cut and Old European Cut diamonds, are continuing to become more and more rare. These each have their own story, distinct craftsmanship, and uniqueness that modern cuts cannot replicate.

The Charm of Old Mine Cut Diamonds

Old Mine Cut, sometimes referred to as “antique cushion cuts,” date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. They were the standard shape before the round brilliant cut came into popularity. What is unique about Old Mines is their cushion-like shape with pillowy rounded corners, giving it a softer and elegant silhouette, that in my opinion has a timeless appeal! These diamonds tend to have a softer and more romantic light dispersion, resulting in a warmer glow giving these diamonds charm and old-world glamour.

Old European Cut Diamonds: The Perfect Balance of Elegance and Fire

Old European Cuts are personally my favorite antique stones. Old Euros have a round shape with a smaller table, deep pavilion, and fewer facets than today’s modern rounds. As a result, these diamonds often have more "fire", which is where you'll see colors in flashes of light.

Like Old Mines, these diamonds were cut by hand, and each one is unique in its proportions and faceting. The craftsmanship involved in creating these diamonds was very detailed, making each stone a work of art.

We choose to use Old Mine Cut and Old European Cut Diamond for a few reasons!

  1. Timeless: Both the Old Mine and Old European Cut diamonds have a unique charm that modern cuts simply can’t replicate. The soft, rounded, often imperfect shapes bring a touch of history, art and elegance to your piece.
  2. Character: Since old cuts were cut by hand, no two diamonds are alike. Each one tells a story of craftsmanship, giving the piece a sense of individuality and personality.
  3. Romantic: These diamonds have a soft, romantic glow that many people find more enchanting than the sharp brilliance of modern diamonds. Their warmth and vintage sparkle make them perfect for those who want something truly unique.
